commissioned by Carte Blanche.
1. Notes on Cracking
What happens when the facade cracks?
Vanity and courage are the starting points for Siri Jøntvedt and Snell Hall’s piece for Carte Blanche. Err, failure, and all that we as humans do to succeed, is a recurrent theme for the choreographers. They are primarily concerned with the moment where dance meets the individual and where dance defines the person. They often base their themes on their own personal and intimate spheres, and fight to break cultural boundaries and neutralise social shame.
At the intersection of how we are and how we wish to will appear, Jøntvedt and Hall brings us into a world where the stage language is inspired by both the recognizable and the absurd – as well as the emotional!
Siri Jøntvedt (1968) and Snelle Hall (1969) have collaborated since 1991. In several productions, they worked on the ‘Siri & Snelle Show’ concept, which can best be described as a cross between a dance performance and a talk show. Both in these shows and in later work, they have dealt with phenomena such as reality TV, ideals of beauty, the focus on celebrities and the alternative wave. Their most recent major production was Skapet (the Closet) at Dansens Hus in Oslo, in March 2013.
A triple-bill program with four choreographers and one theatre director. Our contribution to the Bergen International Festival 2015! Our new Magasine are handed out at the performance.
